Dr. Bernadine Bishop

Dr. Bernadine (Bernie) Bishop joined Bramer as a part-time associate in July 2026. A native of suburban Detroit, MI she received her veterinary degree from Michigan State University in 1996. She practiced for over 20 years with 10 of those years specializing in emergency and critical care. Recognizing a need, she elected to leave the profession to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology (PsyD) graduating in 2022 from the Michigan School of Psychology. It was her residency in psychology that brought her to the Chicago area - after which she was asked to stay for her post-doc and then just asked to stay on as an associate at the practice where she did her training, Psychological Consultations. Since, she has earned certifications in both the treatment of trauma and sex/couples therapy with a deep focus working within the LGBTQ population.

Although enjoying her new profession, her deeply ingrained love of medicine and missing daily interaction with furry patients, she elected to return to veterinary medicine. She now splits her week between the two - working as a psychologist three days and as a veterinarian two days during the week.

Dr. Bishop is newly married (2024) to her partner, Steve, an IT consultant. They live in Lakeview with their two very silly cats: Winston (11) and Harry (2). In her free time, she's an active tennis player involved in 2-3 leagues at any given time. She also enjoys sailing, helping out as racing crew on several boats through the years and is a proud member of the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club.

A healer by nature, Dr. Bishop is truly excited to be so welcomed to Bramer and the Evanston community and looks forward to getting to know the entire 'family' of patients and clients.
